Michael Melenchuk has a passion for the Lifesaving Society. Since 2008 he has been on the Board of Directors of the Lifesaving Society in Nova Scotia. Always involved, he volunteered to represent Nova Scotia at the National level, participated in various committees at the Nova Scotia branch, and served as the Nova Scotia President from 2012 to 2016. His involvement in sport grew from regional competitions like the Nova Scotia Surf League to the international Rescue competitions in Australia, Germany, and Egypt. More recently, he has started doing research into Lifeguarding and Lifesaving, with papers on lifeguard hiring and lifeguard judgement being presented at the last three World Conferences on Drowning Prevention. He brings years of small business experience and a Masters in Business Administration to his role as the Executive Director and he looks forward to being able to contribute to the long term success of Lifesaving in Nova Scotia. |

When the province announced the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service (NSLS) contract had been awarded to the Lifesaving Society on March 8, 1999, Paul D'Eon was hired shortly thereafter to manage the program. Paul began working with the NSLS as a lifeguard in 1975 when the program was administered by the Canadian Red Cross. In 1984 he was promoted to the Coordinator role, and has been involved with the NSLS ever since.
Paul holds a B.A. in Physical Education and Recreation from Acadia University and has been involved as a volunteer with many recreation and sports related organizations, most recently as President of Recreation Nova Scotia and on the national steering committee for the Sport of Lifesaving. Paul's role with the Society is to manage the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service contract in addition to other responsibilities. |
