Staff and Executive

Gordon Richardson , Executive Director

Gordon joined the Lifesaving Society as Executive Director in 2006.

Prior to joining the Lifesaving Society, Gordon held senior management positions in several emergency health services organizations. Gordon’s management experience includes managing small business, complex occupational health services and international health care experience.

Gordon has a long history of volunteering in the not-for – profit community. In the past he has served on the senior management committee of the Victorian Order of Nurses at both the provincial and municipal level, he has volunteered with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and is currently the treasurer of the Arthur Kidston Memorial Camp.

Gordon has had considerable experience in the development and delivery of several courses including Medical First Responder, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, CPR and Emergency Cardiac Care and all levels of first aid training.

Paul D'Eon, Special Projects Director

When the province announced the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service (NSLS) contract had been awarded to the Lifesaving Society on March 8, 1999, Paul D'Eon was hired shortly thereafter to manage the program. Paul began working with the NSLS as a lifeguard in 1975 when the program was administered by the Canadian Red Cross. In 1984 he was promoted to the Coordinator role, and has been involved with the NSLS ever since.

Paul holds a B.A. in Physical Education and Recreation from Acadia University and has been involved as a volunteer with many recreation and sports related organizations, most recently as President of Recreation Nova Scotia and on the national steering committee for the Sport of Lifesaving. Paul's role with the Society is to manage the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service contract in addition to other responsibilities.

Hylda Tucker, Office Manager

Hylda Tucker joined the Lifesaving Society in October 2007, after 7 years experience as Office Manager for a small business. She has had extensive customer service experience, both in her previous management position, and in the retail banking industry.

Hylda has been a volunteer with school and church organizations in leadership positions.

She provides administrative support for the Executive Director, as well as conducting the day-to-day business operations of the office.

Mike Maguire, Database Manager

Mike Maguire joined the Nova Scotia Branch of the Lifesaving Society as Database Manager in September 2007. He has extensive lifeguarding, instructing, and examining experience. Mike worked at the Ontario Branch office of the Lifesaving Society for nearly two years. He also worked at the Dartmouth Sportsplex for several years.

Mike holds a BSC in Recreation Management from Dalhousie University, and is currently working on his MA in Recreation at Dalhousie. He is also an avid runner, having completed several half and full marathon races.
