Frequently Asked Questions / Help

Can I get an extension on my NLS?

No, there are no extensions; once your National expires you cannot lifeguard. You have three years time to re-certify before you must re-course.

How old do I have to be to take the NLS exam?

You must be 16 years of age on the day of the exam. You may take the course prior to turning 16, but you have to wait to do the exam until you are 16.

I am moving to another province, what should I do?

Contact us. We will transfer your awards to the appropriate branch. Your information will still be in our database, should you return to Nova Scotia.

If my NLS waterfront is current, but my pool is not, can I still guard at a pool.

The provincial guidelines recommend that you are current in the option that you are guarding in.
