Our Privacy Policy

The Royal Lifesaving Society Canada, Nova Scotia Branch ("Lifesaving") acknowledges that it is responsible for the protection of personal information in its possession. Under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Nova Scotia), Lifesaving is required to implement policies and procedures to govern the collection, retention, use, disclosure and disposal of personal information.

Generally, Lifesaving only collects personal information on individuals to identify persons who receive awards from Lifesaving and to provide Affiliates and other interested parties contact information of individuals for the purposes of employment and conducting examinations.

Lifesaving will identify the specific purposes for requiring personal information at the time it is collected and will seek the explicit consent of the individual to collect and use it only for those purposes identified.

Lifesaving will limit the type and amount of personal information collected to that which is necessary for the purposes as identified to the individual. In addition, Lifesaving will only use information collected for the purposes identified at time of collection. If Lifesaving wishes to use personal information in its possession for another purpose, it will only do so after obtaining consent for the new purpose. Lifesaving limits the use and disclosure of personal information consistent with the consent of the individual. Lifesaving will not make other use or give access to third parties without consent. Lifesaving will strive to ensure that personal information in its possession is accurate and will allow individuals to access their information to ensure its accuracy and completeness.

Lifesaving takes reasonable measures to safeguard personal information in its possession against such things as loss and misuse. Measures include the use of locked cabinets within limited access offices and secured electronic information. Lifesaving takes care in disposing of and destroying personal information after it is no longer needed.

Individuals can again access to their personal information in the possession of Lifesaving upon written request to the Executive Director of Lifesaving (the responsible privacy officer). Lifesaving will provide access to the individual within 30 days and at no cost. Lifesaving will charge a fee for copies of information provided, such as lost or missing certification cards. Lifesaving undertakes to correct any and all erroneous information it holds at the request of the individual.

INTERNET USE

Our policy is not to collect personally identifiable information about individuals except when specifically provided to us on a voluntary basis, such as when requesting information or when purchasing merchandise.

We do not share or disclose our visitors' e-mail addresses, nor any other information submitted by a user when accessing our web site, with any third parties.

Our web servers automatically recognize your domain name when you visit our site, and this information may be aggregated and used to measure statistics regarding the use of our site, such as the number of visitors, average time spent on the site, pages viewed and similar information. Likewise, this information is not distributed to or shared with third parties.

We may use the information we gather for our own internal purposes. Our goal in collecting personal information online is to continually improve the content of our web site and to offer consumers with products that best meet their preferences and desires. We may use the personal data provided online to send our customers information about new products or offers that we feel may be of interest to them as well as our newsletter, Aqualines. Our policy is strictly to protect your online information in the same manner in which we protect our customer information obtained through other means.
