The On-Ramp to Lifeguarding
Programs for young lifesavers

The on-ramp to lifeguarding for 9-12-year-olds who are ready to go beyond swim lessons.

The Junior Lifeguard Club

The Junior Lifeguard Club (JLC) offers serious fun for kids 8 years and up who can swim at least 25m and tread water for 2 minutes. The Jr. Lifeguard Club provides an action-packed challenge for kids who love the water but who want more than "lessons." The Jr. Lifeguard Club is for quick learners, those between levels or programs who thrive in an energetic learning environment.

The Canadian Swim Patrol

Swim Patrol has 3 levels - Rookie, Ranger & Star. Content is organized in 3 groups - Water Proficiency, First Aid, and Rescue. Swim Patrol develops swimming strength and efficiency with emphasis on Water SmartŪ behaviour. Skill drills enhance capability in the water, good physical conditioning and lifesaving judgment. Want to know what you have to do to earn your Rookie Patrol; Ranger Patrol; or Star Patrol certifications?

Rookie Patrol features timed 100 m swims, 350 m workouts and swims with clothes. A work hard/play hard approach develops swimming strength and efficiency with emphasis on personal responsibility for Water Smart behaviour.

Ranger Patrol features timed 200 m swims, 100 m fitness medley and support/carry a 5 lb. weight. Content is challenging but achievable with effort. Skill drills enhance capability in the water including a non-contact rescue.

Star Patrol features timed 300 m swims, 600 m workouts, lifeguard whistle signals, and airway and bleeding first aid priorities. Demands good physical conditioning and lifesaving judgement.
